Bachelor theses

Topics

I supervise BA theses in all fields of economics but with a very specific objective: The thesis is an extended referee report of a recent study (published or recent working paper) that includes a replication of the main results and a (small) extension that goes beyond the results in the original study.

Methods

BA theses typically involve empirical work employing methods of causal inference or machine learning, applied to a dataset used in a recent study.

Start date

Your thesis can officially start at one of two times during the year:

Requirements

Supervision capacity is unfortunately very limited and I am often unable to meet the high demand for supervision. I expect you to have successfully finished at least my undergraduate course below if you consider writing your thesis with me:

-          Data Science

In any case, please talk to me early (i.e. 1-2 months before the start date) about capacity and potential topics.

Template

The thesis has to be written entirely in R Markdown/Quarto. A template can be downloaded here: https://wisostat.uni-koeln.de/sites/statistik/Tom_Zimmermann/BA_ThesisTemplate.zip
